Dogs with memory

A kind woman put out dog biscuits at her driveway.

Yesterday, I stopped and picked one up for Ginger and Mari.

This morning, when we set out for our walk.

It was so dark, I did not feel it safe to walk the back alleys,

which my dogs, Ginger and Mari loves.

I edged Mari into a street and remember the dog biscuits.

I started saying, "Let's go get some cookies."

Mari led me right to the house and to the cookies.

I did not know she understood me.

Or that she remembered the house and cookies from yesterday.

Tell that to those who claim dogs do not suffer.

Because they do not have memories.

I was fed that trend of thought growing up.
