NunStory: #26. Solemn Profession

My solemn profession was drawing near.

My Clothing, the ceremony where I advanced from postulant to a Novice was delayed by an extra six months.

The community wanted to delay my simple profession to two years. However, the retreat priest told them they had to get me professed or send me home.

In a flurry of activities, they got me professed.

My family was not given time to attend it. The mothers assured me it was no big deal. It was for my mother who felt the loss of it.

Now the solemn profession was approaching. The same retreat priest was very happy with my progress.

The young sisters were not too thrilled but had no grounds to contest it.

I won a unanimous vote for the Solemn Profession.

It was a solemn ceremony, the most moving being the one where the sister lay prostrated in a full figure on the floor, offering herself to God.

My mother came with my younger brother and sisters.

The turn sister or portress was so generous that she invited everyone to the tea after the ceremony. It was meant for families and a few friends.

Much to my regret, my mother and siblings were not able to partake of it. There were too many there.

However, there was a surprise for the community and myself after the solemn profession.

One which I did not account for though I should have.
